The Sayner Hütte site once extended southwards all the way to today's castle park. The dwellings on the far side of the Saynbach and the buildings belonging to the Monreal company also stood on
the former ironworks site.
Today one water channel belonging to the Sayner Hütte, the so-called Lower Channel, still runs under the turbine house and the Monreal warehouse. It is the continuation of the Upper Channel,
which was diverted from the Saynbach about 2 km north of the Ironworks and ran all the way to the rear of the blast furnace building. The water ran partly above ground and partly below. It was
harnessed in order to drive several water wheels at the works.
Behind the arcade building (the Iron Art Casting Museum), the water from the upper channel ran downwards through a pipe and underground into the lower channel leading to the castle park, where it
flowed back into the Saynbach.
In September 2021, a water wheel chamber was discovered in front of the arcade building. In the 19th century this was probably used to drive a slag crusher and a boring mill. Vaults were also
discovered, but we still know nothing about their function.
It was not until the start of the 20th century that the water in the turbine house was used to generate electricity by means of turbines.
